Kendal Choral Society supporting Japanese Butterfly chairty badges

The Ladies of the choir have been wearing very attractive BUTTERFLIES at their recent concertanese Tsunami .

These have been made by a 99 year old Japanese lady, Nobu Indo, who lives in Tokyo. She was born in Iwate on 3rd January 1916. This was the poor remote area devasted by the 2010 Earthquake and Tsumami.

She has been making these broaches using Japanese traditional brading techniques in aid of fundraising events to support new community facilities in Tohuku.

The choir bought these butterflies which they hope will go towards buying some musical instruments for the children, who lost everything. Around £500 was raised by the choir by selling butterflies to family and friends, as well as buying them to wear personally . They have gone far and wide away from Kendal . The donation has been sent via Oxford based NGO, ‘ Helping hands for Japan’.

Music certainly crosses international boundaries.
